Hello, my name is Jake Molz and I am a sophomore communications major at Dominican University of California. I am writing for the Dominican Beat to expand my skills as a reporter and a journalist, and hope to write about anything and everything pertinent to both the Dominican community and world at large. After realizing my childhood dream to become Spider-Man is not a career choice, I’ve been pursuing careers in media and entertainment production. Hello, my name is Uta Uchida and I am a first year student here at Dominican University from Tokyo, Japan. I am a Communications major and my work will reflect what I find interesting. I play for the Dominican men’s basketball team. I enjoy listening to music, meeting new people, and playing basketball. I hope to work in areas such as marketing, broadcasting and journalism relating to the sports field in the near future. I can speak Japanese, English and a bit of French. Attending schools in 3 different continents allowed me to learn about different views and cultures, broadening my perspectives on various news stories.
Hello, my name is Zoe Burgess and this is my first year at Dominican University. I am originally from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, but I decided to make the trip out here to be a part of the Women’s Volleyball team. Hi my name is Alyssa Pedersen and I am a Junior Communications and Media Studies major with a concentration in Sports Broadcasting here at Dominican University. I help broadcast both the women’s volleyball and softball games when both are in season. During summertime I worked alongside Stuart Horne to help do play-by-play for the San Rafael Pacifics.

I enjoy making YouTube videos and hanging out with friends. My goal is to become a film producer and promote body positivity as well as self-love through all means of communication.
My name is Hailey Pawlak, you have to call me nighthawk, and I am a first year student at Dominican University of California and I’m and studying Graphic Design and Communications I am also minoring in Marketing and Advertising. I’m originally from Santa Cruz, California. I enjoy painting, drawing, anything involving art, exploring, finding new places to spend all of my money on coffee, and going to concerts. After college my goal is to leave Dominican with the knowledge to obtain a sustainable job in the Graphic Design/Communications field. Hopefully I can design shirts and posters for upcoming bands or places like Urban Outfitters. Either way, as long as I’m creating art and listening to music I’ll be happy.
I am a Senior Communications Major with a concentration in Multimedia Journalism and Broadcasting, I am a huge sports fan and hope that my career can revolve around it after I finish my course work at Dominican University and achieve my long term goal of obtaining a degree from a University. I have been a part of the Radio Broadcast program here since my Freshman year and Broadcast Men’s and Women’s Soccer and Basketball teams. Furthermore I am an intern at CNBC this semester with is helping me further my career even more each and every day.

I am a member of the highly coveted Dominican University of California Men’s Lacrosse team. Originally from Van Nuys, California, I have used my lifetime of experience in the field of athletics and connection to the “showbiz” industry to formulate myself in the most proficient version of myself possible. I am a former DJ for the prestigious Penguin Radio and went by the name “Captain Quality”. I am now a fulltime student athlete as well as a writer and marketing representative for a youth sports app known ZORTS.

Hi! My name is Taylor Andreozzi, I am a Junior Communications and Media Studies major with a minor in Music at Dominican University. I am from Kirkland, Washington, and I am quite possibly one of the biggest fans of Dominican Athletics. In my years at Dominican I have broadcasted for the radio, commentated for sporting events, created and maintained the Dominican Radio website, and so much more. I love to participate and learn about programs for different points of view, so as a reporter for the Dominican Beat, I will be making it a priority to understand how someone’s perspective can change a story.

Hi there! My name is Caitlyn Dang, but I go by Cat. I am diagnosed with Bipolar 2 Disorder, and my life has been whirlwind of manic-depressive events that have finally sculpted the person I am today. I feel like having a clinical mood disorder has really influenced my perception of societal topics and current events, and I will use my knowledge and passion to help fuel the content I create for the Dominican Beat.

I have a deep passion for sports and being in tune with what’s going on in the sports world. I work with Penguin Radio to help broadcast all live events on campus. I’ve grown up in the Bay Area, but since I studied abroad in Belgium, my dream is to travel to as many places as possible.

Hi I’m Lily Batchelor, I’m a Junior here at Dominican and am studying civic communications and politics with an interest in calling attention to important political, environmental, and civil issues. As a writer for The Beat I focus on advocating for civil and environmental rights, while exposing the wrongs. I believe the basis for any social change is rhetoric, awareness, and community; something journalism has the capacity to enact. I enjoy traveling, nature, music, and anything to do with science, history and advocacy. These interests are reflected in in my lighter pieces which focus on interesting and unique people, places, and experiences.
