On Thursday, April 21, 2016, Prince Rogers Nelson, 57, was pronounced dead afterhis staff found him unconscious at 9:30 am that morning. Cause of death has not been disclosed.
The music icon and legend had been been hopitalized the week prior to his death. He had been on his HITnRUN tour and had to cancel several concerts in the week following his hospital visit.
An accomplished musician who played several instruments, Prince was known for his musical score and starring role in the film Purple Rain. He recorded over 30 albums, and his hits include Let's Go Crazy and When Doves Cry. Prince rose to fame a fairly young age, writing his first song when he was seven.
Since his passing, many other artists have performed their own renditions of Purple Rain. The news hit many fans hard and the music and radio industry has been playing covers or his recorded music on the radio.
Fanscame to Paisley Park complex with flowers, purple balloons, and signs to pay tribute to a legend whose music spanned rock, funk, and jazz. Prince’s family and friends handed out purple boxes to fans containing memorabilia like CDs, T-shirts, and books to commemorate Prince’s accomplishments and his life.
On Saturday, April 23, his family held a small ceremony in private. A public celebration of his life is planned, although has not been announced .
